We have a major development in the National Hockey League.

In one of the most anticipated moves of the 2018 - 2019 National Hockey League regular season the Anaheim Ducks have finally caved in to the pressure around their organization. This morning the Ducks officially announced that the organization's head coach Randy Carlyle has been relived of his duties effective immediately, ending his second tenure with that organization. The move comes off the heels of a catastrophic season thus far from the Ducks and it was clearly not a move that Anaheim Ducks general manager Bob Murray, the man who will replace Carlyle as interim head coach for the remainder of the season, wanted to make given just how long he waited before pulling the trigger on firing Carlye.

The calls to fire Carlyle have been loud and persistent for several weeks now and it has felt like a question of when and not if Carlyle would be fired, this in spite of the fact that no other coach in the history of the Anaheim Ducks franchise has produced more wins on the ice that Carlyle has. The Ducks released an official statement via Bob Murray to announce the firing of Carlyle and once again it was made clear that this was not a move that Murray was thrilled about.

"We thank Randy for everything he has done for the organization," said Murray as per NHL.com. "Leading the team to a Stanley Cup and three conference final appearances, he has accomplished so much in Anaheim. Difficult decisions need to be made when times are tough, and our play has clearly been unacceptable. We have a tradition of success in Anaheim and we need to get back to that."

In fact that tradition of success in Anaheim can in many ways be linked directly to Caryle who has led the team to one of the most impressive runs of success over the past several seasons. Although the Ducks have not captured hockey's holy grail in over a decade now they have consistently been a force in the regular season with five consecutive 100+ point seasons and a perenial playoff contender with six consecutive playoff appearances and 2 appearances in the Western Conference Finals over the past 4 years.

We wish Randy all the best on his future endeavors.
