The Arizona Coyotes have officially hired John Maclean as an assistant coach on Rich Tocchet's staff.

MacLean’s legendary career saw him play 1194 games and score 413 goals and 842 points. While he’ll mostly be remembered as a long-time New Jersey Devil, MacLean also suited up for stints with the San Jose Sharks, New York Rangers and Dallas Stars

Following his retirement he went behind the bench with the Devils as an assistant coaching, winning a second Stanley Cup Championship with the team in 2003. He had a spectacular failure as the team’s head coach in 2010-11, going 9-22-2 in just 33 games before being fired.

He would catch on with the Carolina Hurricanes as an assistant coach once again, but hasn’t been behind an NHL bench since being fired from that position in 2014.
