It sounds like there will be at least one major modification to one of the National Hockey League's newest rules, the coaches' challenge, at least as far as the playoffs are concerned. According to a report from Jonas Siegel for the Globe and Mail, the first day of the NHL's general manager's meetings this week has already led to the GMs widely agreeing on a proposed change that would reduce the possibility of human error.

From Siegel's report:

Still, the NHL will make one tweak for the playoffs, adding blue-line cameras to the arenas of the 16 post-season teams. The cameras are intended to further aid clubs in determining whether to challenge a goal on account of offsides.

Less human error means less chances a coach makes a bad challenge, something that wastes everyone's time, but it also means less chances the referee's will get the call wrong when reviewing the play. There was no mention of whether or not these additional angles will be used in the regular season for the 2016-2017 campaign, but comments from NHL vice-president Colin Campbell do make it seem like this is the future.

“I think it was a good day to show where we’re at with the coach’s challenge and where we can get to,” said Colin Campbell as per the Globe and Mail.

More camera angles to view the game from, decreasing the opportunity for mistakes, this seems like a welcome modification to an existing rule.
