Breaking: NHL veteran announces retirement after 984 career games.

A major retirement has just be announced.

According to a report out of the Czech Republic, long-time National Hockey League veteran Tomas Kaberle will officially be hanging up his skates, putting an end to his incredible professional hockey career, one that is a true underdog story.

Kaberle had spent two of his last three seasons playing in Europe, and his only stint in the National Hockey League over that stretch was a failed attempt to earn a roster spot with the New Jersey Devils when he joined them for training camp on a professional tryout before being released.

Despite the struggles he experienced later in his career. Kaberle undoubtedly left his mark on the National Hockey League with a career that spanned 984 career games in which the defenseman recored 67 goals and 476 assists for 563 career points, not bad at all for a guy who was picked in the 8th(204th overall) round of the draft, yes really.

Kaberle will likely best be remembered as a member of the Toronto Maple Leafs, the team that drafted him and where he spent the overwhelming majority of his NHL career.

We wish him all the best in his future endeavors.
