There is concern that injury may force a National Hockey League veteran to end his career prematurely.

On Thursday Ottawa Senators general manager Pierre Dorion officially announced that forward Clarke MacArthur had failed his team medical test prior to training camp, indicating that he will not joining the Ottawa Senators on the ice.

While there has been no official statement regarding MacArthur's future there is already a great deal of speculation that this may be the end of the road for the often-injured 32-year-old.

The news is especially shocking due to the fact that while MacArthur missed all but 4 games last season, he made a very strong return for the Senators in the post season, and was a big part of helping that team reach the Conference Final.

We will be bringing you more updates on MacArthur as they become available.

Update: TSN insider Pierre LeBrun has indicated that today's news was not unexpected for those involved in the process, perhaps the Senators are currently aware of something we are not.
