Veteran defenseman Zbynek Michalek is heading to Europe, after he agreed to a contract with HC Sparta Praha, a team playing in the Czech Extraliga.
The 34-year-old was still sitting on the free market, waiting for an offer from an NHL club.
The defender spent most of last season with the Tuscon Roadrunners, the farm club for the Arizona Coyotes in the American Hockey League. He puts a pause - and possibly an end - to his 11-season NHL career.
In 784 games in the League, Michalek recorded 42 goals, 136 assists for a total of 178 points with the Coyotes, the Minnesota Wild, the Pittsburgh Penguins and the St. Louis Blues.
