A National Hockey League veteran has just been cut from a professional tryout with the Colorado Avalanche and this may be him hitting rock bottom as far as his NHL career is concerned.

On Wednesday the Avalanche announcedthat defenseman Jared Cowen has been released from his PTO with the team, and after the way he ran his mouth in the press as of late one has to wonder if he hasn't made himself untouchable.

Cowen who was still very bitter about losing $3 million dollars in an arbitration case against the Leafs, a case that was brought on by Cowen attempting to contest his contract buyout, ripped the Leafs in the Denver media almost immediately after arriving in Colorado.

Needless to say fighting a buyout, losing the case, and then going on to label the entire process a joke in the press is not behavior that general managers want to see in a player, especially not one who couldn't even earn a roster spot over some of the Avalanche's current defensive group.

Cowen's depleting skill set is certainly an issue to be sure, but the added issues off the ice is a case of Cowen shooting himself in the foot in a very bad way.
