What happens in Vegas, stays in Vegas? Think again when it comes to sports betting and the National Hockey League! Back in September, the Vegas Golden Knights had announced a history-making multiyear partnership with Las Vegas-based sportsbook William Hill US, the first of its kind between a major North American sports franchise and a U.S.-based sportsbook.

Now, it seems like the NHL will dive head-first into the sports betting business and will announce official partnership(s) on Monday morning during a press conference in New Year. Many reporters are sharing the information on social media, including Sportsnet's Chris Johnston and John Shannon. NHL commissioner Gary Bettman will be making the historic announcement on Monday.

The Supreme Court overturned a ban on sports betting in most states in May. William Hill, who agreed to a deal with the Golden Knights back in September, is known to manage 108 race and sports books in the state of Nevada.

The partnership with William Hill came after Golden Knights made it all the way to the Stanley Cup final after winning the Western Conference championship in their inaugural season. The team however lost to the Washington Capitals in five games.

The experiment in Vegas has potentially shown Bettman and the rest of the NHL executives that, once again, money can be made here and that the rest of the league needs to step in and take part in this blooming industry.

In the past, Bettman has often comment on the possibility of the NHL getting into the sports betting business. This was the statement by the NHL when the US Supreme Court officially ruled that the federal ban on sports betting is unconstitutional back in May.

"The Supreme Court’s decision today paves the way to an entirely different landscape - one in which we have not previously operated. We will review our current practices and policies and decide whether adjustments are needed, and if so, what those adjustments will look like. It’s important to emphasize that the Supreme Court’s decision has no immediate impact on existing League rules relating to sports wagering, and particularly, wagering involving NHL games. So, while changes may be considered in the future, today’s decision does not directly impact the operation of the League or any of our Clubs in the short term.”
