Edmonton Oilers head coach Todd McLellan announced some surprising changes to his lineup ahead of tonight's game against the San Jose Sharks, as reported on Twitter by hockey insider Bob Stauffer earlier today. Forward Drake Caggiula and defenseman Andrej Sekera will be out of the lineup, and forward Mike Cammalleri and defenseman Yohann Auvitu will take their spots.
Caggiula, 23, played 41 games so far this season, scoring seven goals and adding five assists for a total of 12 points.
Sekera, 31, missed a lot of action at the start of the season, after he had a surgery to one of his knee. In 18 games played this season, he has registered one assist, and a defensive differential of -10.
Auvitu, a 28-year-old French defenseman, registered five points in 21 games played with the Oilers this season. He joined them last summer as a free agent, after he played his first season in the NHL last year with the New Jersey Devils.
Cammalleri, 35, was acquired via trade from the Los Angeles Kings back in November, in exchange for the underperforming Jussi Jokinen. In 30 games played with the Oilers, Cammalleri scored two goals and added nine assists for a total of 11 points. He had seven points in 15 games with the Kings before he was traded to Edmonton.
The Oilers also announced that they have recalled defenseman Keegan Lowe from the Bakersfield Condors. Drafted 73rd overall by the Carolina Hurricanes in 2011, the 24-year-old defenseman has ten points in 35 games played in the AHL so far this season.
Coach McLellan confirmed that Al Montoya will get the start tonight against the Sharks.
The Oilers are currently sixth in the Pacific division with a record of 23-26-4.
