Breaking: Oilers avoid free-agency with another contract signing
Keystone Press

TSN reporter and NHL insider Bob McKenzie is reporting that the Edmonton Oilers have come to terms with defenseman Eric Gryba on a two-year contract.

The 29 year-old Gryba played 40 games with the Oilers in 2016-17, putting up two goals and six points along the way. He also racked up 65 penalty minutes and even managed to sneak his way into three post season games with the team.

While Gryba likely won’t receive a Norris Trophy nomination any time soon, he’s a capable defender and provides the Oilers with some quality depth should they require it in the next two seasons. His $900,000 annual cap hit is manageable and gives the team some flexibility on the back end.

What do you think Oilers fans, good signing? At the very least, it gives you another contract to dissect while awaiting the McDavid and Draisaitl extensions…
