The Edmonton Oilers announced this morning that they’ve assigned 21 year-old defenseman William Lagesson to Djurgardens IF of the SEL for next season.

The 6’2” blue liner has played two seasons in the NCAA on a woefull UMass team. With only two goals and eight points in 36 games, clearly the Oilers feel that Lagesson would be better served continuing his development in Europe than in college.

What this means for Lagesson’s future with the Oilers isn’t exactly clear. It’s likely that the physical defender will need another season, maybe two, before seeing time on the blue line in Edmonton.
