Breaking: Oilers reclaim Davidson on waivers!
KeyStone Press

The Edmonton Oilers have claimed defenseman Brandon Davidson off of waivers today.

Davidson, a former Oiler, had been traded to the Montreal Canadiens last season around the trade deadline in exchange for David Desharnais. The trade was largely motivated by the looming expansion draft - Pete Chiarelli did not have the protection slot for him, and feared he'd be plucked away by the Vegas Golden Knights for free.

Davidson has put up good underlying numbers for the Canadiens but had fallen out of favour with Marc Bergevin and Claude Julien. Meanwhile, Davidson was not a player Edmonton wanted to ever give up, so they are very happy that he ended up back on waivers.

It's strange though - that two desperate teams for defense in the Buffalo Sabres and Arizona Coyotes passed on Davidson.
