The Edmonton Oilers have added a young 21-year-old defenseman to their organization.

On Friday the Oilers announced that they had come to terms on a three-year entry level contract with Swedish defenseman William Lagesson. Lagesson was the Oilers 4th round draft pick in the 2016 National Hockey League Entry Draft, and has spent the past two season of his career playing for UMass-Amherst in the NCAA.

Over the course of 36 games in his most recent season with UMass-Amherst Lagesson recorded 2 goals and 6 assists for a total of 8 points. He also had a plus minus rating of -6 over the course of that season.

"William's a big, stay-at-home defenceman," said Oilers Assistant General Manager Keith Gretzky as per the Oilers official website. "He's a little older, bigger, stronger and he needs to play more games. This will really help him and his development."
