Breaking: Oilers sign a big piece of their young core
Keystone Press

The Edmonton Oilers have announced that they’ve signed restricted free-agent Zack Kassian to a three-year, $5.85 million dollar contract. The three year deal runs through the 2019-20 season and comes with an annual cap hit of just $1.95 million.

This is great news not only for Kassian, but for Oilers fans as well. The 26 year-old Kassian has endeared himself to the team’s fanbase since being acquired from the Montreal Canadiens and undergoing treatment at the NHLPA’s Substance Abuse Program to overcome an addiction to drugs and alcohol. Since turning his life around, Kassian has begun to deliver on the promise that he showed early in his NHL career.

Hopefully with some certainty and a solid foundation in Edmonton, he can take his game to the next level and become a big contributor for the Oilers in the years to come. Look for him to build off his seven goals and 24 points campaign from 2016-17.
