The Edmonton Oilers are not used to selecting in the late stages of the first round but that's exactly what they did at the 2017 National Hockey League Entry Draft after their best season in years.

The player selected by the Oilers in that draft was 18-year-old Western Hockey League forward Kailer Yamamoto and on Thursday the Oilers announced that they had signed Yamamoto to a new entry-level contract.

Yamamoto is coming off an incredible season with the Spokane Chiefs of the WHL, recording a very impressive 42 goals and 57 assists for a total of 99 points in just 65 games,

Yamamoto is a right-shooting right-winger so it may be difficult for him to crack the Oilers line up next season, although there is always the possibility that he greatly exceeds expectations in training camp.
