Breaking: Oilers' Talbot gets traded in the middle of the night!

The Edmonton Oilers waited to be done with the Carolina Hurricanes to complete a trade. As the clock struck midnight (ET) early this morning, the Oilers traded goalie Cam Talbot to the Philadelphia Flyers. 

The deal is a player for player deal, as the Flyers are sending netminder Anthony Stolarz back to Edmonton. 

The trade took place a couple of hours after the Oilers fell 3-1 at the hands of the Hurricanes. Talbot was not in net for Edmonton. 

On the air on Buffalo’s WGR 550 on Friday morning, Darren Dreger explained how the Philadelphia Flyers and Oilers have been steadily talking about the move and it seems like it is now imminent. 

Talbot, who is in the final season of a three-year, $12.5 million contract, which includes a modified no-trade clause, reportedly allowed the Oilers to speak with the Flyers about being moved there earlier this week. 

There is a link with Talbot and young Flyers goalie Carter Hart, which explains why the Oilers netminder is reportedly willing to join him there. 

“He’s a good mentor, a great guy, a good goalie,” Hart said when asked about Talbot on Thursday, adding that he called him for advice on the night before his first NHL start.

The move occurs at the right time seeing that the Oilers needed to clear $1.2 million in cap space for defenseman Andrej Sekera and trading Talbot frees up enough space for the blue liner's return to be imminent. 

In 31 games this season in Edmonton, Talbot has recorded a win-loss record of 10-15 with a 3.36 goals-against average and a .888 save percentage.
