There had been rumblings of this move since the week-end but it now appears to be official.

According to a report from The Hockey News veteran defenseman Dan Boyle is scheduled to announce his retirement from professional hockey at a press conference that will be held Wednesday in San Jose.

Boyle's career is a true underdog tale, going undrafted in the National Hockey League Entry Draft he would eventually work his way onto the Florida Panthers roster before embarking on a career that would span a whopping 1093 total games in the NHL.

It wasn't just the length of his career that impressed either, Boyle managed to win a Stanley Cup as a mmeber of the Tampa Bay Lightning, and furthermore won Gold when he presented his home country of Canada at the Olympic games.

He ends his career with 153 goals, 442 assists good for 605 career points, not bad at all for a defenseman.

We wish him nothing but the best going forward.
