One of Minnesota’s most promising young prosepcts may be joining the club sooner than anticipated.

Luke Kunin, the 19-year-old center from Chesterfield, Missouri is trying to make a decision about his future: does he continue with his NCAA career, or try and make straight for the big leagues?

According to Minnesota StarTribune reporter Michael Russo, after his second season with the University of Wisconsin, the Wild’s first round pick (15th overall) in the 2016 entry draft may well be ready to make the jump to the NHL.

Kunin had 22 goals and 16 assists for 38 points in 35 games as captain on the University of Wisconsin team. Kunin also led Team USA to a gold medal as captain of the U18 division in 2014-15, and is essentially one of the most elite American defensive prospects not yet signed to an NHL entry-level deal.

Most of his coaches, teammates, and admirers believe he about as ready as anyone to play in the NHL, but the decision to cut his time in college short is Kunin’s alone. The Wild are reportedly waiting his decision with open arms.

The Minnesota Wild are mired in a five-game losing streak, and have dropped eight of their last ten games. The Wild’s next game is  Tuesday, March 21st against the San Jose Sharks.
