Breaking: Outdoor game coming to… Carolina?

According to a report from Carolina Hurricanes insider Luke DeCock, NHL commissioner Gary Bettman is in Raleigh, North Carolina tonight to take in the Hurricanes vs Los Angeles Kings game tonight and… hmmm would you look at that? Looks like someone outlined the shape of a hockey rink at Raleigh’s Carter-Finley Stadium…

Now… that’s got to be a coincidence, right?

Think again. Don’t be surprised if the Hurricanes are pegged to host an outdoor game, either the Winter Classic or a Stadium Series game, sometime in the near future. Now the question is… who do they play? The Canes don’t really have a built in rival. Maybe they host the Washington Capitals or Columbus Blue Jackets? Either way… owner Tom Dundon better ship in fans from elsewhere as the Canes have enough trouble trying to fill their own 18,000 seat arena… forget filling a 57,000 football stadium.
