Breaking: Panarin pulls shocking move and parts way with agent!
Zuma Press

This is a shocker.

It seemed like agent Dan Milstein had heard his client Columbus Blue Jackets star forward Artemi Panarin loud and clear. The Russian sniper has revealed that he wants to test the free agency market this summer and refuses to talk contract extension, not only with the Jackets, but with any team interested in acquiring his services ahead of the Feb. 25 trade deadline.

However, it wasn't good enough for Panarin.

According to former NHL goalie and NHL Network analyst Kevin Weekes, Panarin has just made a change in his agent representation, with less than three weeks to go prior to the deadline.

It seems like Panarin has decided to go with teammate Sergei Bobrovsky's agent. The star goalie is also set to become a free agent this summer. This was first reported by Sportsnet's Elliotte Friedman.

Trade chatter has almost always included Panarin for the past weeks. However, it seems like the price tag on Panarin is so expensive that teams, who were interested in adding the Russian sniper to their crew ahead of a playoff run, are running away with sticker shock.

According to Pierre LeBrun, who gave an update on the Panarin situation in Thursday's edition of Insider Trading on TSN, the Boston Bruins and Nashville Predators might have decided to drop the idea of landing the Jackets forward ahead of the trade deadline, seeing that the asking return would be astronomical.

He suggests they wait closer to the deadline if they're really interested in adding him to their roster.

On Thursday, Bruins insider Fluto Shinzawa of the Athletic revealed how much it would cost Boston to acquire Panarin and it's a doozy. He notes that Boston would need to give up three pieces — their 2019 first-round pick and two prospects (a high-end kid and a secondary youngster).

The news that Panarin has now parted ways with his agent will surely shake things up. This is unfortunate news for Milstein, who was certainly hoping to cash in big this summer once the Russian forward will become the most coveted free agent on the market.
