Breaking: Pastrnak slips and falls while out with teammates, will be out weeks!
Zuma Press

This just in, the Boston Bruins have announced that star forward David Pastrnak will be out of the team’s lineup for at least two weeks after he slipped and fell while out with teammates and injured his thumb.

Suffice it to say that this is devastating news for the Bruins and their fanbase. The 22 year old sniper has an outstanding 31 goals and 66 points in just 56 games for the Bruins this season. Here's hoping he can get back in time to get some reps in ahead of the playoffs or the Bruins' Stanley Cup chances just took a SIGNIFICANT hit.

Interestingly enough, Bruins general manager Don Sweeney said today that Pastrnak's absence from the lineup will NOT affect his strategy ahead of the February 25th Trade Deadline. Of course, Bruins fans and analysts have been beating the drum for the Bruins to go out and acquire a scoring winger for weeks now, with Pastrnak now out long-term, expect those demands to grow even louder.

The Bruins have been linked to Columbus Blue Jackets sniper Artemi Panarin but given the high price tag and the likelihood of Panarin walking out the door via free agency in the offseason, it seems unlikely that Sweeney pursues the Russian forward. Philadelphia Flyers forward Wayne Simmonds is another option, as are pending UFAs Matt Duchene and Mark Stone of the Ottawa Senators but, again, the cost may be simply too high for Sweeney and the Bruins. Especially when you consider the high price they paid to acquire Rick Nash from the New York Rangers' at last year's deadline. Any way you look at it, Sweeney and the Bruins are in a tough spot here.
