Breaking: Patrick Roy expected to interview for NHL head coaching job.

It sounds like former National Hockey League head coach, and a man in the conversation for the best goaltender to have ever played the game, Patrick Roy may be on his way back to the NHL.

In a shocking turn of events Ottawa Senators insider Bruce Garrioch has just revealed the identity of the 7th candidate on the Ottawa Senators coaching list and it is none other than the aforementioned Patrick Roy. I have to admit this one comes entirely out of left field and I do not believe that anyone truly believed that Patrick Roy would be on the radar for another head coaching position in the National Hockey League anytime soon, but here we are. If this were any other source than Garrioch reporting it I would have my doubts, but when it comes to the Ottawa Senators Garrioch has an impeccable track record and is unarguably the journalist best connected to that team.

According to Garrioch it sounds like the interview process for Patrick Roy could be done rather quickly as well, which would line up with the Senators rumored desire to have a coach in place before the draft. Garrioch reports that the it is believed the Senators could speak to the legendary former NHL goaltender as early as next week to discuss the possibility of him taking over as the next head coach of the organization following the termination of now former Senators head coach Guy Boucher. Although there will no doubt be some concerns about Roy's experience, this in spite of the fact that he has a long history of coaching the Quebec Rampart at the junior level and the Colorado Avalanche at the NHL level, I have to imagine that for the Senators fan base he is the sexy name on the list of 7 candidates thus far.

Additionally what is interesting here is the fact that Patrick Roy already has a seemingly strong connection to the Ottawa Senators organization. Currently working as an assistant general manager for the Ottawa Senators is none other than former player agent Peter MacTavish, and in fact he may have played a role in Roy getting this interview, or agreeing to this interview, in the first place.

No word yet on where Roy ranks in terms of likelihood of getting this job, but we will be keeping you up to date as the story develops.
