BREAKING: Pegula eyes former Sabre for GM position
Keystone Press

TSN hockey insider Pierre LeBrun reported earlier today that billionaire Buffalo Sabres owner Terry Pegula is reportedly eyeing former Sabre Jason Botteril for the team’s vacant general manager position.

Botterill is currently an associate general manager with the defending Stanley Cup champion Pittsburgh Penguins, so it’s expected that even if he were to receive the job in Buffalo, no announcement would be made until the Pens complete their postseason run.

In any case, the former journeyman NHLer, AHLer and IHLer has an impressive management resume and was briefly considered for the head GM position in Pittsburgh before the team’s management hired Jim Rutherford. His list of accomplishments includes not only a Stanley Cup with the Penguins last season, but also a Stanley Cup in 2008 and has been instrumental in the Penguins’ management of the salary cap and scouting department.
