Breaking: Penguins assign top prospect to the AHL!

The Pittsburgh Penguins have re-assigned forward Daniel Sprong the the Wilkes-Barre/Scranton Penguins (AHL), the team announced on Monday. Sprong played eight games in the NHL this season, he scored two goals and one assist for a total of three points.

Drafted 46th overall by Pittsburgh in 2015, Sprong played 26 games in the NHL so far, registering five points. At the AHL level this season, he has 18 goals and ten assists for a total of 28 points in 29 games. 

Earlier today, the Penguins saw goaltender Matt Murray back on the ice after he took some time away from the team after the death of his father. Forward Bryan Rust was also back for a full practice, after he has been cleared for contact. Rust was sidelined since December 28th with an upper-body injury. 


The Penguins are currently sixth in the Metropolitan division with a record of 25-21-3. They're playing their next game tomorrow against the Carolina Hurricanes.
