The Pittsburgh Penguins have called up goaltender Tristan Jarry, the team announced on Monday. The back-to-back Stanley Cup champions also sent back goaltender Casey DeSmith to the Wilkes-Barrie/Scranton Penguins of the AHL.

Jarry, 22, was drafted 44th overall by the Penguins 2013. He only played one game with Pittsburgh last season, allowing three goals on 22 shots. In the AHL this season, the Canadian goaltender played five games with a goals against average of 3.18 and a save percentage of 0.897.

The Penguins need to solidify their backup position behind Matt Murray. They signed Antti Niemi as a free agent this summer, but he was claimed on waivers by the Florida Panthers last week.
