Breaking: Penguins star to miss several weeks due to injury.

Some terrible news for one of the National Hockey League's elite defensemen.

Pittsburgh Penguins defenseman Kris Letang was notably absent from practice on Thursday and when head coach Mike Sullivan was finally available for comment he delivered the devastating news.

"Kris Letang has a lower-body injury and will be out for a couple of weeks," Sullivan said as per NHL.com

The Penguins defense has been a point of strength for the team this season with Justin Schultz, a player who once looked like a complete bust on the Edmonton Oilers, having a terrific season both offensively and defensively.

Obviously the added depth the Penguins now have on the blue line as a result will benefit them, but there's no way to downplay the loss of a player who was in the running for the Norris Trophy last season.
