Breaking: Pens place veteran on waivers!
KeyStone Press

The Pittsburgh Penguins announced some roster activity at noon today.

Antti Niemi was signed to a one-year/$700,000 contract over the summer to backup Matt Murray following the departure of Marc-Andre Fleury in the expansion draft.

The former Stanley Cup winner struggled last season in Dallas, and hoped to revitalize his career in Pittsburgh.

Well, that didn't quite happen. He's 0-3-0 in 3 starts, with an abysmal (and skewed) 7.49 goals against average and 0.797 save percentage.

It probably isn't so surprising then, that Niemi finds himself on the waiver wire. It's very plausible that the Vegas Golden Knights decide to make a claim on him, after having goalies Fleury and Malcolm Subban fall to injury.

The Bruins are also without their starter in Tuukka Rask, as well as Subban who was claimed on waivers by the very same Golden Knights, so it's possible they attempt to lay claim to the former Cup winner.
