Reporter Jimmy Murphy tweeted today that the Pittsburgh Penguins, who have been linked to the Avs’ star center, rejected an offer from Colorado this summer.

He continued to explain why the trade offer didn’t work for Pittsburgh, stating that the first round pick in the deal wasn’t on the table – the 2018 NHL Entry Draft promises to be a deep one and GM Jim Rutherford wants to hold on to his pick.

Considering Derrick Pouliot, drafted 8^th overall in 2012, has yet to crack the roster, it’s surprising that Joe Sakic made this ask. It seems very out of line with the ransom they were seeking this summer.

We would’ve made this deal in a heartbeat.
