Breaking: Player convicted of domestic violence could be banned from World Cup of Hockey.

The National Hockey League often makes decisions that get attention for all the wrong reasons, but this is one decision we don't expect anyone will complain about.

ESPN's Scott Burnside is reporting that the NHL is contemplating banning Russian defenseman Slava Voynov from competing in their inaugural World Cup event, for Team Russia, after he was suspended indefinitely following a conviction for domestic violence.

From Burnside's report"

Voynov, who was among the final roster members named to Team Russia on Friday, was suspended by the NHL early in the 2014-15 season after being charged with spousal abuse in the Los Angeles area and the league announced Friday they will be reviewing Voynov's ability to take part in the best-on-best tournament in Toronto.

NHL Deupty commissioner Bill Daly commented on the report and appeared to confirm that the NHL has no intention of letting him play for Team Russia in September.

"We will obviously have to review his status with the Players' Association prior to the start of the tournament in September," Daly said in the statement. "It is not my current expectation that this player will be deemed eligible to play in the World Cup of Hockey."

While it's fair to state that everyone deserve a second chance, a shot at redemption if you will, Voynov left the United States for Russia without ever completing his domestic violence counselling, and it's clear the league doesn't want that image associated with their brand, and who can blame them.
