The Arizona Coyotes and center Martin Hanzal have been trying to work out a deal for a few months now, and it looks like there’s no end in sight.

The 29-year-old is set to become an unrestricted free agent next summer and has decided to put all contract negotiations on hold until further notice. Last season, he posted 13 goals and a career-high 41 points in 64 games and has never hit the 20-goal mark in his NHL career. With his five-year, $3.1 million AAV contract expiring soon, he has likely asked for a raise.

Hanzal told Sarah McLellan of azcentral.com: “I’ll just probably shut it down from my side and just keep focusing on hockey because it will be a distraction for me… I want to stay here, but that was the plan if we don’t get it done before the season.”
