BREAKING: Player returns to lineup
Keystone Press

Head coach Claude Julien just gave an update on Bruins’ forward David Backes.

Backes was expected to miss a few days due to a small elbow surgery, and was sidelined a few more with the coaching staff concerned he may get an infection.  He was, as per Claude Julien, cleared to play and is skating with the team. This means that the Bruins are expecting him to play tomorrow against the Tampa Bay Lightning.

In case this need clarification, the equipment hockey players wear is a prime environment to bacteria growth, with the body heat and sweat trapped within. Having an open wound come into contact with the equipment that’s seen years of use can be detrimental to the health of the players.

So far, David Backes has played five games this season, netting two goals and two assists for a total of four points, and has a +/- differential of +5.
