Having success in the NHL is not a given. It takes a tremendous amount of efforts and character, even when you are a former WHL star and have been selected fourth overall. You can ask Griffin Reinhart.

Many experts agree that he never really played up to the expectations of Oilers management. According to Sportsnet writer Jonathan Willis, his career with the Oilers might be over before it even starts. Here is what he had to say about the 23-year-old:

"Although Reinhart cannot be held responsible for the price paid to acquire him (two early picks in 2015, including the first-rounder used on Mathew Barzal) he certainly failed to live up to the development path outlined by GM Peter Chiarelli at the start of the training camp in 2015-16."

In an interview with TSN in 2015, Chiarelli went as far as saying that he believed Reinhart could be in the top-four at some point. It definitely did not happen.

However, with the recent news of Ondrej Sekera being out for 6 to 9 months, it could be a good opportunity for Reinhart to stand out:

Only time will tell if Reinhart's acquisition was worth it. He will need to establish himself as an NHL defenceman next season if he expects to have a successful career. As of now, he recorded only two assists in the 37 games he played with the Oilers.
