Breaking: Rangers manage to sign Trouba to lucrative deal!
Zuma Press

Some fans were worried about the New York Rangers’ ability to come to terms with restricted free agent defenseman Jacob Trouba, however, the team proved them wrong on Friday.

The Rangers revealed that they have agreed to terms with Trouba on a seven-year contract. The team made it official on social media.

According to NHL insider Elliotte Friedman of Sportsnet, the deal is for seven years with an average annual value of $8 million.

Some insiders have been worrying about the Rangers’ cap space state, as Larry Brooks of the New York Post recently reported the Rangers still lack sufficient salary-cap space to re-sign restricted free agents Pavel Buchnevich, Brendan Lemieux, and Anthony DeAngelo. Therfore, Brooks believes the Rangers have no other choice but to consider contracts buyouts in defensemen Kevin Shattenkirk and Brendan Smith.

For the moment at least, they got a big task checked off the to-do list in signing Trouba.

Trouba was acquired by the Rangers in a trade with the Winnipeg Jets on June 17, 2019 in exchange for first-round pick and defenseman Neal Pionk.

He, who was drafted in the first round, 9th overall by Winnipeg in the 2012 NHL Draft, has collected 179 points in 408 NHL games.

He is coming off a one-year, $5.5 million contract.
