BREAKING: Red Wings call up two players
Keystone Press

The Detroit Red Wings have called up forward Tomas Nosek and defenseman Brian Lashoff from their AHL affiliate Grand Rapids Griffins.

After Justin Abdelkader was placed on the seven-day injured reserve earlier today after initially being slated to miss 2-4 weeks with a sprained MCL, it was believed that perhaps Drew Miller could be a serviceable replacement. But with Tyler Bertuzzi also injured recently, it comes as no surprise that Nosek would be a good choice.

The 6' 2" center has two goals and 10 points through 11 games with the Griffins, and the 24-year-old will look to prove that he could be a welcomed addition to the lineup.

Meanwhile, with Niklas Kronwall not featuring in back-to-back games and Alexey Marchenko as well as Brendan Smith both sidelined with injuries, Lashoff could provide a certain steadiness to the blue line, as his 6' 3" frame and 221 lbs should make the Red Wings slightly harder to play against.
