Following the blockbuster signatures happening since Saturday, the NHL have been treated with big sensations and amazing turn of events. For the vast majority of players though, this period is a routine, matter-of-fact period to manage their future.
Xavier Ouellet extended his stay in Detroit for two additional years today.
He played his first full season with the Wings during the 2016-2017 campaign and established himself as a reliable bottom pairing type of defenseman. He scored a reasonnable 12 points in 66 games but showed some promising signs of improvement at the blue line. He's still a work in progress, but GM Ken Holland decided to give it a shot in a relatively limited risk. A AAV of 1.25M$ doesn't create a risk for the team and it will relieve pressure on the kid to perform with a deal in his pocket.
Good luck moving forward, Xavier!
