The Red Wings general manager appears to be unhappy with the way his team was led during the 2015-2016 season, and through a first round playoff exit.
According to a report from Bob Duff of the Windsor Star, Ken Holland has announced major changes will be coming to the Red Wings next season, with head coach Jeff Blashill losing the majority of his coaching staff.
Saying it was time for a change, Detroit Red Wings general manager Ken Holland confirmed that the team was dismantling the coaching staff that worked under head coach Jeff Blashill during the 2015-16 NHL season.
Out after 18 years as the Red Wings goaltending coach is Windsor resident Jim Bedard. Assistant coach Pat Ferschweiler, who was Blashill’s right-hand man with AHL Grand Rapids and worked the bench with him during Blashill’s rookie season with the Wings, will be retained on staff but will be reassigned to press box duties on game nights.
While the first question many would ask following these moves would be how safe is Blashill behind the Red Wings bench? According to Holland Blashill will be involved in the decision making process when it comes to replacing the former staff, likely indicating that he is safe for now.
"Jeff Blashill and I have gone over a bunch of names. We’ve interviewed a couple of people."
