Breaking: Red Wings release Zadina for World Juniors
Zuma Press

The Detroit Red Wings have officially loaned rookie forward Filip Zadina to team Czech Republic for the upcoming 2019 World Junior Hockey Championships in Vancouver/Victoria.

The teenage Czech sniper drafted 6th overall in this past summer’s 2018 NHL Entry Draft is off to a solid start to his pro career with seven goals and 15 points in 23 games with the Red Wings’ AHL affiliate Grand Rapids Griffins.

Being a 19 year old and a returnee to the tournament, big things will be expected of Zadina at the World Juniors. Let’s see what this kid can do on the world stage… you never know it may lead to an extended audition with the Wings when things wrap up in early January.
