The Detroit Red Wings were facing some severe backlash over a controversial decision that had reportedly resulted in a die hard fan facing a lifetime ban.

Red Wings superfan Nick Horvath was escorted out of Little Caesers Arena in Detroit after he became the first person to through an octopus on the ice of that arena. After being booked for a misdemeanor Horvath was also issued a fine and he took that all in stride believing it had been well worth the price to carry on a scared Red Wings tradition.

However Horvath also revealed that a punishment he could not accept was the fact that he had been informed by two members of security staff that he was banned from the premises for life. After he came public with his story the backlash against the Wings was quite vocal, and the team has now responded.

From the Detroit News:

Kyle Kujawa, a spokesman for the Red Wings, told The News on Wednesday, “It is not true that he was banned from LCA. He was ticketed and then released.” Kujawa said he was ejected, and added it's the NHL's rule that nothing be thrown onto the ice. Anyone caught is subject to a misdemeanor ticket from the Detroit Police Department. It's the same policy that was in place at Joe Louis Arena, Kujawa said.

With Kujawa stating that Horvath is in fact not banned, we wonder if this means he is free to return to the arena effective immediately. Hopefully we'll get another update from Horvath himself if he does return to LCA.
