There is a juicy report out of the Kontinental Hockey League today.
According to one of Russian hockey's premier reporters, Aivis Kalnins, it appears that KHL superstar Ilya Kovalchuk is looking to make a return to the National Hockey League despite the fact that his current team, SKA St. Petersburg, is currently attempting to re-sign him to a new deal.
While Kalnins did admit that negotiations had begun taking place between Kovalchuk and SKA, he points to the fact that the team failed to retain Alexander Radulov last season, and we all know how that turned out.
However the key detail of Kalnins report was the revelation that Kovalchuk is hoping to follow in Radulov's footsteps, although with his strange departure from the NHL, how much freedom he will have in that regard is up in the air.
More to come on this story to be sure.
