We rarely see the Toronto Maple Leafs and the Ottawa Senators make a transaction, however, one has taken place between the two rival teams on Friday. The Senators have acquired forward Morgan Klimchuk from Toronto in exchange for forward Gabriel Gagne.

The 22-year-old Gagne has participated in 33 games with the Belleville Senators (AHL) during the 2018-19 season and has recorded four goals and five assists for nine points.

In 142 career AHL games, the young forward has registered 40 points (26 goals, 14 assists) and 62 penalty minutes. Prior to playing in the AHL, Gagne skated in 177 games in the QMJHL split between Victoriaville (143 games) and Shawinigan (34 games), where he recorded 68 goals and 64 assists for 132 points.

Gagne was originally selected by the Senators in the second round (36th overall) of the 2015 NHL Draft. He has yet to play a game in the NHL.

As for Klimchuk, the 23-year-old was selected in the first round, 28th overall by the Calgary Flames back in 2013. He was the return from Calgary on that Andrew Nielsen trade, which took place back at the end of November.

Klimchuk has put up five goals and 10 points in 30 games between the Stockton Heat and Toronto Marlies of the AHL this season. He has appeared in his first career NHL game last season with the Flames, but failed to record a point.

While this isn't a major trade, this could be the start of a new era between the two teams to start making deals with one another.
