Breaking: Sabres and Leafs make an NHL trade.

In a surprise move the Buffalo Sabres and Toronto Maple Leafs have made a National Hockey League trade.

According to an official report from the Maple Leafs organization, they have acquired 30-year-old veteran center Cal O'Reilly from the Buffalo Sabres, although Toronto intends to immediately demote O'Reilly to the American Hockey League.

O'Reilly will not be available to Toronto as a depth option should the Leafs make the playoffs this season as he was traded well after the trade deadline, and what makes this move even more confusing is the fact that no return was reported for Buffalo. We have to assume that this deal may have been for future considerations.

O'Reilly is a former 2005 Nashville Predators draft pick and has appeared in 11 games for the Sabres this season where he has just one assists over that stretch.
