Breaking: Sabres officially cut ties with veteran Berglund
Zuma Press

The Buffalo Sabres have placed veteran forward Patrik Berglund on waivers for the purposes of terminating his contract.

The 30 year old Berglund was suspended by the team last week for refusing to report and has now had his contract worth $3.85 million per year officially torn up. He’ll hit the open market as an unrestricted free agent immediately.

The veteran forward was acquired this past offseason from the St. Louis Blues as part of a blockbuster trade featuring Ryan O’Reilly, but it’s clear that Berglund hasn’t fit into the Sabres’ lineup quite like expected. He’s played 23 games and picked up just two goals and four points along the way.

It’s believed that Berglund was unhappy with a move to Buffalo from the get go and it’s been reported that Berglund’s agent neglected to compile his client’s “no trade list” prior to the offseason trade.

In 717 career NHL games, Berglund has 170 goals and 326 points.

UPDATE: The Sabres have now officially confirmed the transaction.
