In case you missed it, the New York Rangers officially confirmed one of hockey’s worst kept secrets earlier today when they announced that team president Glen Sather had resigned from his position and will transition into a senior advisor role within the organization. In effect, this is a move that will grant the 75 year old Sather with a partial retirement.

As stated above, the Rangers will immediately begin searching for Sather’s replacement. Rangers insider Larry Brooks reported earlier this week that former Rangers player and broadcaster and current Columbus Blue Jackets president John Davidson could be an option, a report that Blue Jackets inside Aaron Portzline has confirmed, as well.

Davidson, of course, spent eight seasons with the Rangers organization in the 1970s and 80s before being forced into retirement due to injury. He was the team’s color commentator on MSG Network broadcasts from 1983 until 2005 when he left to become president of the St. Louis Blues and has served as Blue Jackets president since 2012.
