Breaking: Schultz placed on IR, Penguins make a call up
Keystone Press

The Pittsburgh Penguins have officially placed defenseman Justin Schultz on the IR. The 27-year-old blue liner suffered a lower-body injury in Tuesday’s loss to New York Rangers and had already been ruled out of tonight’s contest agains the New York Islanders. With the latest news, it’s expected that he’ll be out for at least a week… maybe longer.

As a result the Penguins have recalled defenseman Frank Corrado from the AHL’s Wilkes-Barre//Scranton Penguins. The 24-year-old Corrado has played in three games for Pittsburgh earlier this season, posting an even plus/minus while averaging 11:06 minutes per game. Corrado has compiled five points (1G-4A) and a plus-4 in 12 AHL contests this season.

This is the second injury to Schultz so far this season after missing time with a concussion in early November. The blue liner has two goals and 10 points in 23 games this season, following a career high 12 goals and 51 points in 2016-17.
