The Ottawa Senators have made a surprising addition to their blue line, signing veteran defenseman Justin Falk on Friday.

The 30-year-old defenseman agreed to a one-year, two-way deal with the club on Friday and will be available to play on Saturday afternoon when the Senators face the San Jose Sharks at the Canadian Tire Centre. The deal pays Falk a pro-rated $650,000 in the NHL and $185,000 in the AHL.

Falk, has taken part in 269 career NHL games with the Minnesota Wild, New York Rangers, Columbus Blue Jackets and Buffalo Sabres, scoring a total of three goals and 30 assists.

At the start of the 2018-19 season, Falk went to camp with the Calgary Flames before signing a professional tryout contract with the AHL's Colorado Eagles, where he played eight games, scoring one goal and adding one assist.

Falk was originally drafted by the Wild in the fourth round, 110th overall in the 2007 NHL Draft.
