Senators staff make a controversial decision for tonight’s critical game

When the Ottawa Senators announced that forward Tom Pyatt would miss tonight’s playoff elimination game against the Boston Bruins, many fans and analysts assumed that his place in the lineup would be taken by blue chip prospect Colin White. But wait, not so fast…Guy Boucher has other plans.

According to Senators reporter Bruce Garrioch, the Senators will dress a forward group that does not include White when they take to the ice at Canadian Tire Centre tonight for game 5. The inclusion of veteran Chris Kelly over White, or even over the versatile Tommy Wingels, is puzzling to say the least.

In 82 games with the Senators this season, the 36 year-old Kelly has only 5 goals and 12 points with a -16 plus/minus rating. Meanwhile, White tore up the NCAA with 33 points in 35 games before signing with the Senators earlier this month. The 20 year-old native of Boston, MA would surely relish the opportunity to eliminate his hometown team, but it seems he'll need to gain the trust of his coach before he's afforded the opportunity.
