The Ottawa Senators and the Vancouver Canucks are facing one another tonight, it has however not prevented them from making a trade a few hours prior to the game.

The Senators have acquired goaltender Anders Nilsson and forward Darren Archibald from Vancouver in return from Mike McKenna and Tom Pyatt, who cleared waivers today, plus a sixth rounder in 2019.

Nilsson will join the Senators for tonight's game, while Archibald will be assigned to the American Hockey League's Belleville Senators. Nilsson will wear #31 for Ottawa. He becomes the eighth player to wear #31 for the Sens, all of them have been goaltenders. The veteran goalie has a 3-8-1 record this season with a .895 save percentage and a 3.09 goals-against average. His last win came on Oct. 16 against the Pittsburgh Penguins and he has allowed four or more goals in each of his past three starts, including a 4-0 loss to the New Jersey Devils this past Monday.

As for Archibald, he has put up one goal and two points in nine games with the Canucks this season, posting a minus-1 rating. He has a total of six goals and 14 points in 52 career NHL games, all with Vancouver.

The Senators were looking for much needed help and experience in between the pipes as both Craig Anderson and Mike Condon are sidelined with injuries.

35-year-old McKenna holds a 1-4-1 record along with a .897 save percentage and a 3.96 GAA with the Sens this season. He was called up by the team when Mike Condon was assigned back to the American Hockey League. With Anderson injured, he has been sharing the net with fellow call-up Marcus Hogberg, who is expected to start Wednesday night against Vancouver, with newly acquired Nilsson as his backup.

Pyatt, who cleared waivers earlier today, has two assists and a minus-16 rating in 37 games this season.
