A tornado tore through parts of Ottawa and Gatineau, Que., on Friday, leaving a trail of destruction. While the Ottawa Senators are entering a rebuilding phase, it seems like it might take a pause on Friday night because awful weather... see what we did here?

Before the Senators' game against the Chicago Blackhawks at the Canadian Tire Centre in Kanata, Environment Canada added a tornado warning to its list of bad weather that might hit the capital throughout the day. Then it was confirmed: a tornado touched down in the Ottawa area.

Wow.

Environment Canada issued the special weather statement, along with a severe thunderstorm watch, warning of strong winds in the late afternoon and early evening then northwest winds gusting to 60 or 70 km/h Friday even after the front passes.

Winds should drop off overnight but in the meantime, “damage to buildings, such as to roof shingles and windows, may occur,” the weather agency warned.

“Loose objects may be tossed by the wind and cause injury or damage.”

The game managed to start on time, however, before it did and players got ready to jump on the ice for warmups, Ottawa Sun and team insider Bruce Garrioch revealed that power was out at the Canadian Tire Centre. Then, it was back on. The arena staff keeps hoping that it won't happen again, while the players are in action on the ice for the rest of the evening.

Another warning was sent out by Environment Canada, just minutes before the game started, explaining that meteorologists are tracking a line of severe thunderstorms capable of producing very strong wind gusts, pea to dime size hail and heavy rain.

"Heavy downpours can cause flash floods and water pooling on roads. Strong wind gusts can toss loose objects, damage weak buildings, break branches off trees and overturn large vehicles. Remember, severe thunderstorms can produce tornadoes."

However, we are pretty sure Senators general manager Pierre Dorion will find some positive about this, right, Pierre?

We have to say the weather in Ottawa is pretty fitting to what is taking place in the Sens' dressing room and in the front office at the moment. We are pretty sure they are looking forward to better and sunnier days...
