Earlier today we reported on some very strongly worded comments made by Ottawa Senators owner Eugene Melnyk, comments that were targetted directly at Penguins captain Sidney Crosby, but now Crosby's camp has responded.

The response has come from Crosby's agent, Pat Brisson, who is now calling for harsh sanctions to be levied against Melnyk for what he said during that stunning radio interview.

Via TSN insider Darren Dreger:

"In my opinion, a team owner who makes a negative comment about a player outside of his organization should be fined for such action," said Brisson.

"It's worse than tampering and against the culture of our game."

It's hard to argue with Brisson here, Melnyk did in fact make some very heavy-handed comments about last night's incident between Crosby and Senators defenseman Marc Methot.  If you haven't had a chance to see the comments from Melnyk you can read the highlights here.

Some like Steve Simmonds of the Toronto Sun are already criticizing Crosby's camp for not issuing an apology to Methot instead of chastising Melnyk. Although that certainly seems like a rather unrealistic expectation.
