It sounds like the Edmonton Oilers are gearing up for what could be a major move.

According to a breaking news report from Edmonton Oilers insider Ryan Rishaug of TSN, the "Oilers organization is on a full court press to find help at forward." It seems like the Oilers have realized, as many others have realized, that they can not simply count on playing superstar forward Connor McDavid an absurd amount each and every night. Furthermore it seems they have realized that having your captain contribute on over 50% of your organizations total goals is also not a very effective way to produce a contending team in the National Hockey League.

It sounds like the Oilers really going all out here as well. Rishaug is reporting that the Oilers have sent out massive contingent of scouts as well as other Oilers staff in an effort to find a deal that will make acquiring that aforementioned help at forward a reality. It certainly will not be easy for the Oilers however, not only is the team relatively short on assets that they could move in a big trade, but they also have general manager Peter Chiarelli running the show. This may come off as a bit harsh but I am long since past believing that Chiarelli can execute a quality trade of any kind, especially not when he is in desperation mode to save his job.

Perhaps even more interesting however are 3 things that Rishaug believes could be at play here. The first being a 1st round pick on the part of the Oilers, a move that would likely cause many fans to bristle at even just the mention of such a trade being made. No one wants to see a lame duck general manager mortgage the future of a franchise to try and save his job and this would be no exception.

Rishaug also believes a goaltender could be in play which would likely mean either moving veteran goaltender Cam Talbot or trying to cash in on the early success of Mikko Koskinen in North America. I could see a move of this nature being much more well received by the Oilers fan base, especially if the relatively mediocre Talbot were the trade bait. Keeping Koskinen would be a gamble but he has unquestionably been the better of the Oilers two goaltenders thus far.

Last but not least Rishaug believes a "young developing forward" might be at play, but when it comes to prospects it's very hard to gauge who the Oilers would consider moving without knowing which player or franchise they are targeting in such a move.
